Privacy Policy

CookieTin is a browser extension that automatically rejects cookie consent banners, blocks autoplay media, and surfaces deals and discount codes found on the pages you visit. All of this processing happens entirely within your browser — on your device

Information We Do Not Collect

CookieTin does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

  • Your browsing history or the URLs you visit

  • The content of any web page you view

  • Any personally identifiable information (name, email, IP address, etc.)

  • Cookies, passwords, or form inputs

  • Your location or device identifiers

Plain English: CookieTin has no backend server and makes no outbound network requests on your behalf. There is nowhere for your data to go.

Local Storage Only

CookieTin stores a small amount of data locally in your browser using Chrome's storage.local API. This data never leaves your device and includes:

  • Your preferences — whether the extension is enabled, autoplay blocking on/off, and similar toggle states

  • A recent history list — a capped list (100 entries max) of domains where cookie banners were handled, stored with a timestamp. This is used only to display the count in the extension popup.

  • Usage stats — a local counter of total banners handled and deals clicked. Never transmitted anywhere.

You can clear this data at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing your browser's extension storage.

Permissions Explained

CookieTin requests the following browser permissions:

  • activeTab — allows the extension to interact with the tab you are currently viewing, in order to detect and dismiss cookie banners on that page.

  • storage — allows saving your preferences and local stats as described in Section 3.

  • host permissions (<all_urls>) — required to run the content script on any website so cookie banners can be handled wherever you browse. We do not use this permission to read or transmit page content.

Deals and Discount Codes

CookieTin can surface deals and promo codes found on the pages you visit. This detection runs entirely in your browser — no page content is ever sent to us or any third party.

Some deals may be shown as affiliate links through networks such as Awin. If you click an affiliate link, the retailer’s site and the affiliate network may record that click for commission-tracking purposes, in accordance with their own privacy policies. CookieTin does not receive or store any personal information as part of this process. Affiliate links are always clearly labelled in the extension UI.

Third-Party Services

CookieTin does not use analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking of any kind. We have no visibility into how you use the extension.

Children's Privacy

CookieTin is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect any information from children. Because we collect no personal information from anyone, there is nothing to collect from children either.

Changes to This Policy

If we materially change this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Because we collect no personal data, changes are unlikely to affect you in any meaningful way. We recommend checking this page occasionally if you want to stay informed.
